Open Gardens Andalucia
May 27th and 28th 2017
Charity event, May 27th and 28th 2017
On the 27th and 28th May 2017 we took part in a new initiative, the Open Gardens Andalucia charity event. Three gardens in the Alpujarras opened their gates for two gloriously sunny days at the end of May and welcomed visitors to tour around, partake in workshops and demonstrations, to enjoy good food and great music, and to just sit and enjoy the beauty of nature all around. The end of May really is a fabulous time to be in southern Spain. We asked for an entry donation of €5 which gave the ticket bearer access to all three gardens over the weekend. The money from the entry ticket was donated to three local charities, Acompalia Palliative Care, Valle Verde Animal Rescue and La Chocolatada (helping disadvantaged children in Bolivia and Peru)
The three gardens who took part were:
Jardin de la Alpujarra, Cortijo Opazo - Pórtugos
Orgiva Tea Garden, Las Chimeneas - Orgiva
Jardín Nevada, Nevada Naturales - Lanjarón
Here at Jardín de la Alpujarra we had a most enjoyable time. The garden looked in its prime and visitors could enjoy not only a stroll to admire the flowers and planting, but also were able to partake of various refreshments, including homemade cakes, open sandwiches with pulled pork or falafels, and the star of the menu was pizzas cooked on our large new wood burning oven. All this was made delightful by the evocative sounds of the duo ‘La Ley de Murphy’, from Lanjarón.
The whole weekend was relaxed and saw visitors out and about, exploring the Alpujarras and discovering some great locations. If you missed this event, look out for it next year, it is sure to become a popular fixture on the calendar.
